At the end of each chapter it will show you all the kanji words you need to learn. It also shows you which you need to know how to write and which to read. If you bought a kanji dictionary before starting with tobira you can just reuse that and learn the kanji that way or just look them up in a jisho. Each tobira chapter starts off with introducing the theme of the chapter. The book will ask you some basic question about the topic. After the introduction questions you will find the reading texts of the chapter. There are always several multi-page reading sections and after each one of them you can find the word list. After the reading part there are the main questions which are about the stuff you've just read. At the end of the chapter you'll find all the grammar points used in the chapter, they're all explained to you in English and have example sentences.
Should you get the additional grammar book and kanji book from Tobira? Apart from the main Tobira book there's also a grammar and Kanji book. I personally only use the main book, but there are some benefits to getting the grammar and kanji book. The grammar book contains exercises with actual answer sheets. The answers you write down will often very a lot with the answers the book gives you. Therefore the answers won't always be of much use to you. If you think you need the additional grammar practice you should get the book. Link to tobira grammar book: The kanji book has some similarities to Kanji from Zero, but it's not entirely the same. You can write the kanji a couple of times in a notebook and it will give you its readings and stroke order. Tobira wants you to learn to write some of the kanji and for others just reading them is enough. There's around 25-30 kanji per chapter in total you'll learn around 500 new ones.
